Evaluation by the Pastoral Council

Dear friends,

As we come to the end of our working year as St Aidan’s Pastoral Council, it is good to look back with gratitude to God for our time together and for all that we have done.

Pope Francis, in his recent Apostolic Exhortation, The Joy of the Gospel, dreams of a ‘missionary option’ – where the Church’s customs, ways of doing things, times and schedules, language and structures can be suitably channelled for the evangelisation of today’s world rather than for her self-preservation’ (Evangelii Gaudium, 27).

As we gather to reflect on the work and direction of our Pastoral Council, we do so with these words of Pope Francis in mind. It is about seeing new situations as an opportunity for evangelisation and an invitation to mission. It is about what Pope Francis calls an effort to ‘to recover the original freshness of the Gospel’. Whenever we make that effort ‘new avenues arise, new paths of creativity open up’ (Evangelii Gaudium, 11). Therefore, it is important to take stock as we proceed.

Below is a template that offers us the chance to do just that. There are six headings that represent the main aspects of parish life: Governance, Liturgy, Formation and Communication, Witness/Proclaiming, Sharing Resources and Team Ministry. Underneath each heading is a statement that invites each Council member to asses if this statement is true or not true. At the end of these questions are two further questions that allow us to comment on the Pastoral Council for the year just ending and as we look forward to 2014/2015.

We take this opportunity to thank you for your commitment and contribution to the life of this parish in general and especially for your dedication to your leadership role on the Pastoral Council.

Please fill out this questionnaire and return it to the Parish Office by Friday 30th May. The information will then be processed and fed back at our final meeting on June 18th. This meeting will be facilitated by Mrs. Maria Colfer of the Ferns Pastoral Centre, Wexford.

With every blessing,

Aine Doyle (Chairperson)

Fr Lawless and Fr. Swan.
